The 2008 Legal Food Frenzy was Fabulous!

The 2008 Legal Food Frenzy was a tremendous success, with more than 1,366,401 pounds of food for the hungry contributed statewide. Here in Central Virginia, more than 650,000 pounds was contributed for the children, elderly, working poor and others served by CVFB. The 49 participating firms in this year's contest more than doubled last year's contribution, nearly exceeded the total pounds raised for the entire state last year, and are already gearing up for an even greater effort next year!

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, whose vision took this event statewide last year and continues to fuel it, visited CVFB on July 10 to present the "Attorney General's Cup" to the statewide winner, Schettine & Nguyen of Richmond. With only 3 lawyers and 7 staff members, the firm raised an incredible 4,187 pounds of food per capita. The other Richmond-area winners were also honored, and are pictured below.

A special thanks goes to Goya Foods, who in partnership with Christian & Barton contributed 40,514 pounds of food through the event. In addition, an "Honorable Mention" goes to Stephen Brown of LeClairRyan/Wright Robinson, who pledged to shave his head if his firm met their goal. They did indeed meet the goal (and were a Central Virginia winner), and he indeed did lose his hair! See below for his 'before' and 'after' photos.

This phenomenal food-raising event could not take place without the support of the sponsoring organizations, The Office of the Attorney General, the Virginia Bar Association Young Lawyers Divison, and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks. Here in Central Virginia, we are especially grateful for the efforts of event co-chairs Chris Gill of Christian & Barton, and Katja Hill of LeCalr Ryan/Wright Robinson, representing the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association, and also committee members Derek Swanson of McGuireWoods and Cherie Givens of Hirschler Fleischer.
