Sixty local churches and charities concerned about growing hunger and poverty among the people in the Central Virginia region established the Central Virginia Foodbank in 1980. To address these concerns, the Central Virginia Foodbank became an affiliate of America's Second Harvest, the Nation's Food Bank Network. As a member of A2H, our service area is defined in a contract based on the regional availability of food resources. We serve 31 counties and five cities, from the Northern Neck to Louisa County and south to the North Carolina border. CVFB was named "Best Foodbank in the Nation" in 1998 by A2H and remains rated in the top ten each year.
