Every day, 25,000 children in the Richmond and Tri-Cities region suffer from malnutrition.
Children who don’t have enough to eat don’t do well in school. They are sick more often. They often develop social problems. They fail to meet their adult potential. The Central Virginia Foodbank’s Kids Café Program tackles these problems, addressing childhood hunger in a unique way.
Every day, 2,000 of these children receive a hot, nutritious evening meal at after-school program site. Delicious meals are cooked in our new Community Kitchen using donated food from farmers, producers, grocers and restaurants, and delivered to 48 sites around the region. The children eat heartily and thankfully, and the meals are provided at no cost to the children or the centers they attend.
Our cost to prepare these meals averages $2.00 per meal. The Federal government, through the USDA program, reimburses the Foodbank at the rate of $.65 per meal, leaving us the remaining $1.35 to cover through fund raising.
We need your help to continue serving these children, and to build capacity to serve more of them in the future. Our new kitchen gave us the physical space and equipment to grow the program, but growing it costs money.
Won’t you help us to meet the need by sponsoring meal tickets for children? You can choose how many you want to help by downloading and completing the pledge form below. Or click here for our Kids Meal Ticket Campaign giving page where you can make a contribution of any amount that will go towards this important fundraising endeavor. In return, you will enjoy the benefit of knowing that your investment now will help these children reach their full adult potential.
